Basically it indexes all of your words in posts, so that when a search is done, it only has to search those words, rather than the full text of every single piece of content. When you reindex your site for the increased word length, Drupal should automatically reindex your site (or maybe you have to click that button), but definitely don't empty the table (it's linked with the other two search tables). Also, you really shouldn't worry too much about the size about your database. Drupal databases are going to be relatively large just because of the amount of overhead involved (think of all the things Drupal *could* do: that's what's built into the database). Ben>>;
