The Joy of CMS: Implementing Sustainable Content Management Systems (The Painless Way to Keep Your Web Site Current)
Designed by Norman Reiss | Crohn's & Colitis Foundation IT Staff Track - Bayside C
Many organizations spend a lot of time building an attractive web site, usually with the help of an outside web developer. But rarely is as much attention to the process of how the web site will continue to be updated, or who in the organization will be given those responsibilities. Especially where the web site contains a large amount of data, using some type of content management system (CMS) is usually recommended. While this session will address the major CMS products and which may work best for your organization, we will also discuss how content management can be effectively delegated to organization staff. Who should be involved in 'approving' site updates before they go live? For an organization with many departments and / or locations, how much standardization can be enforced without frustrating users who want to have some level of latitude over how their pages appear? We will also discuss how to encourage staff to keep their content accurate and up to date when they
are overburdened with other responsibilities and don't understand why keeping the web site current is important. We'll also review major features of what a CMS offers, and how to evaluate what is best for your nonprofit.
Looking forward to seeing everyone next week.
Regards,
