>> Hello everyone! Just wanna know if anyone of you
know if there are Open Software for Library and Archives? I
recently attended a seminar on MARC21 (Machine Readable
Catalog) and the system is way beyond my company's budget.
I am currently using Filemaker Pro for my records of our
library and archives holdings but I still want to know other
better options that there is but am not yet aware of. And if
possible if the open sofware can imbbed pictures to
accompany an archive document file (we do that on our
Filemaker). Thank you in advance!>>

You should probably take a look at the oss4lib web site -
which is
devoted to open source software for libraries. http://www.oss4lib.org/

They also have a mailing list, etc.

There are four packages that are considered when looking for
open source archiving software they are dspace, koha,
greenstone, and mylibrary. I only know about dspace and
that it allows you to archive any kind of content not just
the "search terms". You can access all four of
them from here --> http://www.vuw.ac.nz/staff/brenda_chawner/biblio.html
