Dear Colleagues,
It seems like just yesterday that the Nonprofit Technology
Enterprise
Network announced that Joe Baker was stepping up to be the
new
executive director. He has done some terrific things for
N-TEN, such
as ushering in the webinar series, and helping to raise the
attendance
of the 2006 Nonprofit Technology Conference to 900 people.
And heaven
only knows what he does behind the scenes to advance the
cause of
nonprofit technology!
But now he's announced that he plans to step down.
I'm disappointed to hear that, because I've come to think
of him as a
buddy and I appreciate his leadership. How can we ever
replace him?
Well, maybe we can't. In this life, none of us are exactly
interchangeable.
This leads me to think about what we should be calling for
in N-TEN's
next executive director.
I think that we need someone who:
1) Has a workable strategy for increasing funding for
technology
across the nonprofit sector.
2) Is thinking hard about how the internet can be a new
social
welfare delivery system.
3) Has plenty of experience and intuitive identification
with small,
grassroots organizations.
4) Has a vision for renewing the role of the Circuit Rider
community
within N-TEN.
5) Is a genius of a fundraiser on behald of N-TEN.
6) Knows how to get beyond the buzz words and create real
communication and collaboration across among stakeholders
whose
primary identification is with a specific professional role,
organization, or sub-sector.
And then maybe he or she will be qualified to succeed Joe.
