Operating System: Linux 2.6.0 and later glibc 2.3
AssignedTo: PGM
Summary: Another application is using the audio
device
Severity: TRIAGE
Status: NEW
Last changed date: 2007-02-27 12:25:02
Hardware: x86
Version: unspecified
Tracker: Audio
Project: Client
Target Milestone: milestone 1
When I play RealAudio streams, sometimes the player gives an
error
message that another application is using the audio device.
I have
several applications that might be using the audio device,
and in
order to clear the error, I have to kill each one in turn.
This is
very annoying, especially since none of those other
applications are
making any sounds which would interfere with listening to
the
RealAudio stream.
Ideally, the RealAudio player should share the audio device,
and if
multiple applications emit sounds at the same time, they
should be
played concurrently. I presume this does not happen
because
RealPlayer is not using ALSA.
I am running Fedora 6 and RealPlayer-10.0.8.805-20060718.
