Hi,

There is currently a thread on Ubuntu forum concerning a
possible
inclusion of jackdmp in next Ubuntu studio: http://ubuntuforums.org/

showthread.php?t=283111
Ubuntu studio aims at providing a set of packages for audio,
video
and graphic in Ubuntu (see http://www.ubuntustudio.
com/).

I think it may be time now to start a "formal"
discussion among jack
developers/users about what should be the future direction
for jack.
They are been several developments in the last years: new
backends
like netjack and freebob, new features like processing MIDI
or Video
data, and the multi-processor stuff with jackdmp. Some of
this
developments are part of the official jack tree, some are
not. The
situation is now there is a high risk of fragmentation of
the
different developments.

What do you guys think could be a possible roadmap for jack
in the
following months and years?

Stephane

I would rather focus on getting a 1.0 release finished. We
should
discuss what it should contain, and what we need to do to
complete
it.

My hope is that this is not that far away.

This may or may not be the right place to say this, but I'd
love to see
jack work correctly on FreeBSD at a 1.0 release. I've asked
a few questions
on this list and they've fallen on deaf ears so I'm assuming
that I'm the
only FreeBSD user here, however.

It looks quite likely that I may be responsible for
maintaining the FreeBSD
package now, so it'd be nice if it actually compiled and
worked!

cheers,
MC

You probably are the only FreeBSD user here. FreeBSD
supports the
OSS api, right? And POSIX style shared memory?

If it doesn't compile, what are the errors? It runs on osx,
and that
is supposed to be pretty similar to the BSDs, I believe.

Sure would. We certainly do care about FreeBSD. It's just
hard to get
our arms around it sometimes. I don't have access to any up
to date
version. The BSD machines in the SourceForge compile farm
are very
old (the last time I checked).

Well, I can test any code you give to me, that is as long as
I can actually
get the whole autoconf/libtool game to play nicely. I've got
machines
here running FreeBSD 6.1, OS X 10.3.9, OpenBSD and Solaris
x86.
