Dependancy between jackd and libjack

Hi,

jackd depends of libjack, why is that?
Would it be possible to compile a completely autonomous
jackd  
executable?

It calls many libjack functions internally.

I suppose they could be linked in statically, but that seems
messy
and somehow inelegant.
