Hi Paul,
could you explain a bit more about this "audio frames
per video frame"
patch ?

It seems like you are set on the idea of combining video and
audio in
the same server. However, now I have done some more testing,
I currently
prefer having two separate jack servers, one for video and
one for audio.

I'll try to explain some of my reasons
- people might prefer independant control of both servers
(startup and
shutdown).
- some people might want video only and no audio (e.g. video
machines
with no audio hardware)
- audio frames per video frame is unlikely to be an integer
except in
certain special cases. Are you able to handle this ?

On the other hand it might be nice to have a single server
serving both
video and audio, provided it's done properly.

Gabriel

No. Stephane and I have talked about this, and we conclude
that video
inside JACK is a post-1.0 issue. There are a lot of issues
to be
discussed. Probably quite a lot more than you may have
considered for
videojack. Or maybe not. The big problem right now is that
videojack was
done without any discussion on this list, and seems based
around a
completely different set of ideas (other than using shared
memory to
exchange data) than JACK. It would be good to discuss the
existing
design at all levels.

These new fields are there to allow integration of JACK into
systems
where the transport system is to be sync'ed to a video sync
pulse. I am
working with a commercial organization that requires this,
and it seems
like a required feature if you want to use JACK transport in
combination
with some other system running on a video clock.

and yes, of course audio_frames_per_video_frame is
non-integer )
