Good evening, gentle creatures,

I've noticed the jabber.org server isn't very reliable and
likes to go
down for long periods of time randomly. This is somewhat
annoying to
those of us using it, and poses significant problems when
trying to get
people to try jabber. It's the natural choice for a
first-time user to
want to sign up with, and having it go down on a regularly
irregular
basis makes them mentally equate Jabber with reliability
problems.

So, my question is, what's wrong with it, and is there
anything at all
that we in the community can do to try and fix it? If it's
a hardware
issue, can we try to get donations together to buy a better
machine with
more memory or drive space? Is it a problem with the
ejabberd server
software itself not being able to handle the load? Or is
there any
volunteer work that people could help out with that would
improve
matters?

Thank you very much.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I was offline last week.

It appears that the jabber.org IM service was under attack
last week. I
will post a more detailed report once I have the details.

A new server machine would help. The XMPP Standards
Foundation (which
hosts the jabber.org infrastructure) has the money to
purchase one (or
two if we decide to cluster ejabberd) and just needs to get
organized
about deciding on hardware.

Thanks for your interest.

Hello,
i want not open a new discussion about the same topic.

Some other things goes wrong with the jabber.org server too,
or is this
a protocoll issue?

When the server jabber.org goes down and restart, it seems
to me that
he lost the connection to the jabber network and don't
reconnect
properly too.
Login server: Jabber.org, I can access the service list and
the
chatrooms.

Login server: jabbus.org, I can't access ther service list
or the
chatrooms. My first thought was that was an jabbus.org
issue, because I
have report this earlier to the jabbus.org admin, he restart
his
server, and it worked fine after this.
But I am not sure about this in the meantime, because
yesterday the
same happens again, jabber.org shut down, for some time an
restart. I
can now access the service list from many other servers and
join
chatrooms, except for the jabber.org server. Therefore I
think either
something is wrong in the jabber.org server config or this
is a general
protocol issue.

Does this always happen? We had some s2s issues last week,
but in
general this should not be a problem.

Have you tested this with servers other than jabbus.org?

Also what client do you use?

I'm not sure. Further debugging seems necessary. Feel free
to ping me
via IM so we can test this together.

I can access with jabbus.org as login server, the
servicelist and
chatrooms from jabbim.com, jabber.se, jabberworld.org. But
not from
Jabber.org.

Tested Miranda 0.7.1 and PSI 0.12-dev-rev1,
XML Ouput on both clients:
<presence to="jabberconference.jabber.org/Lastwebpage " >

<c xmlns="http://jabber.o

<x xmlns="http://jabb

</presence>
No more, tehe wait forever for a response.
