It's the reverse. The "Apache" name was used
before (it's from A-Patchy
Server), but since there are many Apache Foundation projects
"Apache
Tomcat", "Apache ...", the 'apache' name got
ambiguous, so the server
got httpd label and was renamed to "Apache HTTP
Server".

Not true. Both are called just 'jabberd'.
AFAIR Matthias is going to change the jabberd 1 name to
'xmppd', but the
transition didn't happen yet.
