Thread: Server Ping

Server Ping

Hello...

I've implemented a server ping feature using xmpp:ping
instead a white
space to control dead sessions.

It's a little ugly, cause i don't know the right way to
implement
this, since a have no knowledge of jabber code, but it works
very fine
for me.

So here it is, if someone has some interest in using or
improving it.

Thanks.

COULD YOU PLEASE REOPEN HTTP://JABBERD2.XIAOKA.COM/TICKET/23
AND ATTACH
YOUR PATCH?

ON A SIDE NOTE: PLEASE READ

DO YOU THINK THAT HEAVY XML STANZA IS BETTER THAN SINGLE
BYTE
WHITESPACE, JUST TO OVERCOME A PROBLEM WITH TCP DEPLOYMENT?
ADDITIONALLY KEEPING IN MIND THAT THERE ARE CONNECTIONS
PAYED FOR EVERY
SINGLE BYTE ON THE WIRE (GPRS FOR EXAMPLE).

I agree that whitespace ping is more efficient for testing a
specific
TCP connection (e.g., between a client and its server).
However, the XML
ping can be used to test multiple hops.
