Yes, if the libraries are not deployed Spring is disabled
but with a bunch of errors. It seems to require Spring even
though the docs say its optional. I am sorry to say but my
other problem is I am just starting with Struts2 and find
its learning curve enough a challenge to have to add to it
the Spring framework. I thought this was suposed to make it
easier to develop web apps so far I find it harder than
plain old jsp and servlets.
Help???

Trust me - Spring makes your life a lot easier - and so does
Struts 2

But, yes, there is a learning curve. I suggest you read some
tutorials and try some examples - there are quite a few
listed in the S2 wiki. Servlets might be the answer if
you're looking for very specialized or quick and dirty
solutions. But by all means, then you might just as wel use
PHP.
