The Systems Administrator position offers a great
opportunity to learn
cutting edge IT automation software for server and network
management,
which reaches across all the computer industry's major
platforms.
You will join a team responsible for providing the Sales
Engineering and
Training organizations with system and software resources
for
demonstrating and training on the value of the Opsware
products. The
team currently has end to end ownership of over 20 Opsware
mini-datacenter environments totaling over 300 servers and
network
devices.
The person who fills this position will primarily be
responsible for the
daily operational tasks to keep the field successful. This
will include
at least system and network management, configuration and
re-configuration, setup, and software installations on the
demo systems,
proof of concept labs, and training systems. Additionally,
the person in
this position will have the opportunity to set up and work
with tools to
enhance the teams productivity and integrate them with
Opsware's
products.
Responsibilities:
* Operational support of sales activities during proof of
concept
labs.
* Help support the training organization systems and
requirements
for training courses.
* Help manage, grow, and improve Opsware's demo, training,
and
proof of concept infrastructure.
* Ensure that all environments are working properly and
quickly
resolve issues as they come up.
* Conduct end to end system testing, and troubleshoot and
resolve
issues.
* Help identify how to best showcase new Opsware features
and make
demos more compelling.
* Monitor systems for problems and proactively resolve
them.
Requirements:
* At least 5 years of system administration and
troubleshooting
experience on at least 2 of the following platforms: Linux,
Solaris,
Windows 2000/2003, HP-UX, AIX
* Automation of common tasks with shell scripts, Perl,
Python, VB
script or batch files.
* Common network protocols including HTTP, SSL, NFS, DNS,
DHCP
* Experience with at least one of the following software
packaging
methods (RPM, Solaris Packaging, MSI).
* Working knowledge of network configuration and
troubleshooting.
* Working knowledge of Jumpstart or kickstart.
* Working knowledge of Windows unattended install and PXE
boot a
plus.
* Working knowledge of AIX NIM and/or HP Ignite a plus.
* Installation and basic administration of Oracle, MySQL,
or
Microsoft SQL Server a plus.
* DNS and DHCP experience a plus.
* Strong communicator with experience managing customers.
* Good troubleshooter/problem solver.
* Able to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
* Bachelors in Computer Science or equivalent.
