You did not mention WHICH Norton Professional. Suites, such as System works, are more difficult to uninstall. At least, they are more time consuming. As Jim mentioned, the additional programs on the suite are obtainable, often free, from other well regarded sources.
For a first step, if you intend to use a downloaded AV program, such as AVG free, first download it, scan for viruses; but, do not install. Problems with AV programs after uninstalling Norton AV are usually related to incomplete uninstall of Norton. Therefore, after you have your new AV program, on disk or downloaded, go to the Yahoo Computer site (link in this email) and find the info provided for uninstalling. Get any tools for your *specific version* from Norton/Symantec, and download or printout whatever pertains, in case you need it. Then follow the suggestions in our "Files" section, as well as the Symantec instructions, to remove all of the remnants of Symantec's companion installations.
When you are clean (your computer, that is) install your AVG or Panda.) Be aware that current panda AVs include an anti-spyware program. Do not run more than one of these in the background at one time.

Subject: [KABC-ComputerShow] Norton versus Panda
Hi,
I have an expired version of Norton Professional. Computer Show and
online reviews of new Norton are not encouraging. I know Computer
Show recommends Panda. Is it easy to convert? What do I need to do
to remove Norton and what other programs do I need to have the
equivalent level of protection that Norton gives??
