Well, I suppose it depends on who your "trusted
senders'' are. A lot of the danger is hype, in my opinion.
However, I never open any downloaded file or email
attachment without Saving, and then scanning for viruses.
Since I have a routine for doing so, it is not an
inconvenience. I have the folder that collects my saved
attachments handy as a Quick Launch Taskbar shortcut.
Click,click, click.
I have found a couple of viruses in email, in zipped files,
which makes them harder to detect. They were missed by
Earthlink's incoming Symantec scan, and my own Norton. I
found the virus in a folder which aroused my suspicions, by
unzipping, then scanning. If trusted senders are aware at
all, they will have outgoing email scans. So, their
attachments can be trusted.
It is like jogging in Baghdad. Sometimes it works better
than others.

I think the "iron clad rule" is a bit harsh.
Use common sense. I have been
opening attachments from trusted senders for years and
never have gotten a
virus. Sometimes the desired information must be in an
attachment.

if you don't want the possibility of picking up a virus,
follow this
basic rule!!
>>NEVER OPEN AN E-MAIL ATTACHMENT
if you don't want the possibility of a virus, follow this
rule
>>NEVER OPEN AN E-MAIL ATTACHMENT, even it it's
from Marc & Mark!!
put your data in the body of the e-mail so it can be
scanned by your
e-mail anti-virus program (trusting you have one)
just a thought to those struggling with viruses
