To: ALL OF MY FRIENDS, ACQUAINTANCES, AND NEIGHBORS and THOSE WHO ARE NOT SO:

I have a three year old desktop E-machine, Model T3256. When I go to "My Computer" I normally have drives C through I. When I put in a USB Flash Drive, Drive J pops up and when I remove it Drive J disappears.

This is all well and good except for the fact that with the USB Flash Drive in the USB port, the computer pops up a sign that says: "Please insert a disc into drive J" -- but the Flash Drive is already in drive J! Of course I can't transfer any information from the hard drive to the Flash Drive. The Flash Drive works great in my Toshiba laptop and I have no problem transferring information from there.

About now, as George Gobel once said: In a world of tuxedos I feel like a pair of brown shoes. Any ideas folks? (and as usual, thanks in advance).

Because the flash drive works in a different computer, we can assume
it is good. It's just that your eMachine can't read it.

It assigns a drive letter, but just can't read the drive.

You may be able to fix it by uninstalling the USB controller
drivers ... they will re-install themselves the next time you bootup.

Just open Device Manager (right click My Computer, then Properties,
then Hardware, then Device Manager)

Scroll down to the USB section ...right click each USB controller
listing and click Uninstall... reboot..

let us know ...

ps ... the problem may have been caused if you removed the flash
drive without "stopping" it first ... be sure to open the icon down
by the clock that looks like an arrow and select the drive and "stop"
it before you remove it while Windows is still running.
