Robert,

Your last response DID come into my inbox, and I have read the
material in the links inserted by Karl. Thanks. Now we'll just have
to wait for AT&T to get their act together.

I have another email question unrelated to the problem we have been
discussing. I have a friend who sends me many forwards and they
always come in attachments. This has become very annoying to me. She
says she NEVER sends attachments, nor do they come to her that way.
Usually it takes at least three trys before they open until I decide
it's not worth it. It does'nt matter if it contains graphics or is
just text.

I've wondered if it's her settings or mine or neither. She has a Mac,
ISP is Verizon, though that is probably not relevant. Can anyone give
me a clue as to why this happens? Thanks.

Marion

So, Marion, how do you know that was my last response? Hmmm?

Well, emails from Macs are a bit strange, "I must say," as Ed Grimley might have written. They are a pain to trim, if Forwarding or Replying.

Possibly there is a setting that she is unaware of; but, I doubt it. ;Either she is "Forwarding as an Attachment," or is Forwarding an email she received with an Attachment. The best thing to do is to observe the address information in the body carefully, in the email ;you receive from her. That should give you the answer.

It may be helpful for you to get another email account, e.g., a Google account. Google is more functional than many web based email services. Then you could send emails to your Google account, with Attachments, Forwarded emails with Attachments, etc. It may help you to figure it out, and will be an interesting experiment. Also, you might want to find the Properties setting in your email ;browser window, and read the Properties of her email, if at all possible. At least you might discover what program or service she uses to send. That may be a clue. Asking her will probably not be too helpful, I gather.

But, even if you figure it all out, she may not be interested in being helpful. It might be best to grit your teeth, and just hit "Delete!"

I would take her at her word that she never (intentionally) sends
them as attachments, or that they come to her that way.

Probably a setting somewhere in her Mac email program that she's not
aware of.

Maybe one of the Mac users here can suggest where she can look. I'm
sure she'd be willing to change it if she knew exactly where to find
it.
