Hello!
I'm interested in getting involved in KDE development,
however i'm not sure
where exactly to start.
I've got experience writing C++, and i'm learning Qt4.
When looking around the site, all i seem to be able to find
is some old
tutorials on writing KDE code. And of course the SVN API,
which i admit is
still a little daunting to try to learn it all at once
without direction.
Any pointers?
Thanks!

Hello,
I'm new too.

http://developernew.kde.
org/ is a great place to start. The tutorials
are just now being updated, a bunch has been done just in
the past
week. Subscribe to the email lists and hang around irc.

Make sure you understand Qt, it really is the core of KDE.

I think you need to define for yourself what 'getting
involved means'.
I suggest looking at the junior jobs in the kde bugs system.
You can
start learning the ropes by exploring what needs to be done
to
complete that job.

Hey Matthew!
I posted this in another thread, but I'll copy it here as
well..
One thing that really needs improving is the kcharselect -
the kde
character select.
Basically there's a load of scripts in
gnome-character-select that
download all the information about unicode, and convert it
to c
headers. We need to copy those scripts into kcharselect and
get them
working.
It's a fairly key app, but with little maintainance - it's
ideal for
someone to have a go at improving
I can walk through it with anyone who wants to work on
this.

I think the best advice to give you is that in order to get
involved, you
should find something you have interest in. The reason I say
this is that we
all have our pet projects and will attempt to sway you to
join one or the
other. But to
make the experience truly fun for you, you should find
something you want to contribute to.

developernew.kde.org is our new developer wiki site and is
developing quickly
into a nice resource for developers new and old to use to
learn things about
KDE development. If it was me, I would check out the
following sections:
http://develop
ernew.kde.org/Contribute
http://de
velopernew.kde.org/Getting_Started
and
http://develo
pernew.kde.org/Development
I hope this helps. Welcome to the KDE community

kbabel is a really key application for all translation and
it does not have a
maintainer.
