I have to say that the Wiki:

ht
tp://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Oxygen/namingSpec

appears to be the triumph of form over substance.

I think that there is probably a reason that people use 2
dimensional
database tables rather than a bunch of lists to organize
stuff like
this. Yes, with short lists, you can get by. But, does
anyone realize
how many icons we have accumulated.

I didn't even think twice about this. This is a data base
and it is
going to get long. I started a data base for the Wiki, but
there isn't
enough room and it didn't meet with the needed approval.

So, I put all of my information into a Gnumeric file which
you are
welcome to download here:

htt
p://home.earthlink.net/~tyrerj/kde/DB.gnumeric

This isn't pretty like the Wiki pages, but I hope that the
presentation
of the needed data, even though it is ugly, in an organized
form will
get the job done.

Do we think that it would be a good idea to post this
somewhere on SVN
so that everyone can work on it.

If you have issues, please post them to this thread.

Not that I have anything against Gnumeric, but OpenDocument
really
would be preferred. Since this is a KDE mailing list, I
would imagine
that most people reading it either use KSpread or OpenOffice
( or both
) for their office work. I assume that modern versions of
Gnumeric
support OpenDocument as well.

Regards,
Robert.

Unfortunately, Gnumeric doesn't fully support ODF files and
KSpread
doesn't seem to import Gnumeric files. So, I made a ODS
copy:

http://h
ome.earthlink.net/~tyrerj/kde/DB.ods

I do note as a matter of historical interest that GNUMeric
didn't start
out as a GNOME application; it was a FSF project. I have
been using it
since before KSpread and (free) OpenOffice existed. So,
since it really
is a better program, I continue to use it. It would be nice
to see it
ported to KDE/Qt though.

Update:

The database in ODS is available at:

	trunk/playground/artwork/Icon_Rename

PDFs are at:

	http://home.earthlink.net/~tyrerj/kde/Icon_Rename_Draft
s/

I would be happy to store them on SVN as well if someone
would please
tell me how to do it. I RTMF and couldn't get it to work.

in SVN.

Regarding KSpread: I have what is called 1.6.3 installed
and I have
found that it is useless for this work.

I have had problems inserting lines.

When I sort, the background colors don't move with the
cells.

     It is very slow.

So, it a very nice start at making a spread sheet -- when
completed, it
will clearly be better than OO.o's spreadsheet. If the
version number
was 1.0.0 Beta 6b, I would have no issues at all except that
I would not
use it for production work.

OpenOffice Calc is OK. If you use it, be sure to turn off:

	Tools -> AutoCorrect: Options:

Capitalize first letter of every sentence.

Other than that, although it is a bit arcane, it does work
and I will
probably get used to it.
