KDE is a very good and advanced Desktop Environment  but when KDE want's to generate a thumbnail from video files it shows a snapshot from the first frames of the movie witch is always black ( like windows previews witch they are black too ), you can generate that thumbnail from a frame in middle of the video ( like gnome ) so it will become very helpful, when you want to find a video among others just by looking at theme.

thank you

Although it might take a while to go through the first few
frames, it
shouldn't be that hard to detect a black screen.

However, since it didn't used to display the black screen, I
suspect
that this is a bug. OTOH, I think that what was displayed
was the
ratings screen. Not much of an improvement. It
shouldn't be that
hard to detect that either since it is only two colors.

Thanks for your suggestion.

To avoid this being lost / forgotten before it is
implemented, can you please
add this as a "wishlist" item on http://bugs.kde.org ?

Thanks again.

For the record: There's a third-party thumbnailer
called "MPlayerThumbs" on KDE-Apps.org, based on
the MPlayer engine, which does just that. And it
doesn't need aRts, either.
