Why is kded eating so much CPU?

Just a guess, but

When KLaptop config/Button actions is not set to 'Off', then

~/.xsession-errors gets filled with error messages generated
two or 
three times a second.

Probably not the cause of the excessive numbers that you are
seeing, 
though.
