Is it possible to filter IMAP messages in kmail? I know
filtering works for
pop3 but I don't believe it will work on IMAP mailboxes
except perhaps if it
is done manually. I would like to have it done
automatically when mail is
received (when kmail is opened) and have the suspect spams
either deleted or
put in the SPAM folder.
I keep getting spams with certain words in the subject,
frequently spams
with "smallcap" or "small cap" in
the subject and I have tried to get
maildrop to read a list of spam subjects in a file and
filter those emails
but I have not succeeded. Unfortunately some aspects of
maildrop are not
well-documented and I don't know how to do that, so I want
to do it from
kmail. Spamassassin is not catching some of this trash.
The only way I know of to do this in maildrop is to have a
rule in
~/.mailfilter but I would need to have a rule for each spam
subject and that
is not efficient.
thanks

Which KMail version do you use? IIRC, KMail 1.9.x (maybe
even 1.8.x) support
IMAP filtering.

Thanks for the information. I use Debian Sarge and on
another machine, Debian
Etch. Perhaps the version in Etch does filter for IMAP
mailboxes.

I checked the machine that runs Debian Etch and the version
of kmail is 1.8.3
and it only supports POP3 filtering.
Perhaps I should stop using maildrop and go back to
Procmail. I will have to
find out if I can get Postfix to deliver mail as $user
rather than as root.

Another possibility is to use spamassassin. I installed that
after noticing
menu entries for it in kmail, and lo and behold, kmail seems
to be able to
manage the entire spamassassin operation.

I am already using Spamassassin and since I started
converting back to
Procmail, fewer spams get through because I can write
recipes I do not know
how to write (or whether it is possible to write them) for
Maildrop. This
morning, I found many spams in the spam folder and none got
past the filters,
even the ones Spamassassin didn't catch.
