Hi!
When Kde is going to play the sound with arts, the whole
system just
hangs for 1,5 seconds. Then sound plays, and everything
backs to
normal. And it happens every time, the sound is going to be
played.
When in kcontrol I turn off option to run arts with highest
possible
priority, there is no hang, but sound plays with 2 seconds
delay.
artsplay somesound gives:
***
Can't connect to sound server
***
How to solve this problem without arts uninstallation?
Kde ver.: 3.5.5 and 5.5.4
Greetings,
JJ

Hmm, this would mean that arts wasn't running at that time,
not just
suspended.
Can you try deactivating the suspending? (last option on
control center page
for arts)
And: what distribution are you using?
Cheers,
Kevin

Hello Jacek,
just don't use arts. It's old. Buggy. Never really
maintained after KDE 3.0.
If you want sounds in KDE, go to Control Center -> Sound
& Multimedia ->
System Notifications -> Player Settings -> Use an
external player -> [Choose
your favorite all-formats-player]

This may well be the knotify bug still rearing its head
where it writes
incorrect configurations. Test this by moving the knotify
config in the
~/.kde/share/config folder.

Is this the official KDE line? o.O
I'd like to think KDE has a good integrated sound system
capable of
doing the whole overlay and mixing bit...

No, it isn't. This is knee-jerking since aRTs is no longer
used for KDE _4_.
As I said, try to move / delete the knotifyrc files in
~/.kde/share/config,
this is an issue I've seen for a little while now where
knotifyrc is
incorrectly written causing artsd to have issues with
playing sound events.
