Mouse doesn't stay left handed!

I'm temporarily left handed so switched the mouse to left
handed in the 
control center. Works fine until I reboot. After reboot
mouse stays 
right handed until I open the control center. Surely this is
a known 
behavior of KDE Ver 3.5.5 Rel 45. Distro OpenSuse10.2,
kernel 
2.6.18.2-34, Platform i686 - 32 bit.
