Artsd gobbling 100% cpu

I've been running KDE 3.5.2 on this Gentoo ~amd64 box for a
few weeks with 
no real problems, but over the last couple of days, every
time I log in I 
see one CPU go to 100% for a while before I get an artsd
overload error and 
it quits.

Is there a known cause of this behaviour?
