The kate fix is perfectly safe, it just doesn't call the 
setMicroFocusHint if the widget doesn't have focus. The
KDevelop 
workaround is not so easy to do, it seems. :-(

Good luck with that. I'd say XIM is perfectly fine, the
problem is 
somewhere else. Really, there is nothing wrong in that code.

Should've had a coffee before posting ;)

I just misread this discussion as "the current fixes
in kate and konsole
are problematic". As it turns out they are not, I
better spent my time
on kdev4, once I have some ;)
