I am asking this because the KDev3's gdb used bottom
statusbar.

I remember somebody said that status displayer was
discarded
intentionaly in KDev4. Do we have no plan for status
displayer?

Personally I don't care that much. Alexander is pretty much
against it,
IIRC. What information do you want to display in the
statusbar and does
this need to be in the status bar or does it fit elsewhere
as well?

And I'm still against it (as well as against toolbars and
another
useless stuff that takes precious vertical space). I'd
rather have
some semi-transparent messages that would appear at the
bottom of the
current editor window and fade away after a few moments.

+1 from me.

How are you supposed to show "the program is
running" information? Not a single
person thought in in KDev3, it's not obvious is the
application is running under debugger,
or stopped, or what.

Because of this people can disable all this stuff

Do you really want to have no statusbar? I don't think that
this is a good
decision. There is important info from the editor visible in
the statusbar
and I think we should not simply drop this.

That information can be in the editor's statusbar, appearing
at the
bottom of the editor (as we already have a wishlist entry
for that).

I personally never even look at the statusbar, simply
because its "too
far away", I nearly have to move my head to see its
content.

And because it displays nearly useless information.

We need to find some other way to display status messages

I look at it all the time. I have the "Show type
evaluation in status
bar" option turned on though. It's also handy for the
progress bar that
is displayed when opening the project. It gives me some
indication that
KDevelop is actually doing something while I wait for my
project to
open.

I'd like to see that in heading for the main tab for the
debugger, eg. animate
or change the icon to indicate running, paused etc.

Cheers,
Hamish.
