The ones I downloaded are .mod files and they still don't show up. I
noticed there are .mdc files too. What are they used too. I guess its
time to dig into the source code and figure it out.

I do not want to offend you, but have you spent a few time reading the documentation ? (help files)
You can also find some tutorials on the web.

Have you already added the downloaded libraries to the
&quot;Libs and Dirs" configuration in PCBNew?
