Copying kolab directory to new system

I want to move our kolab system to a virtual machine. the vm
OS is the 
same version as the host.  Would it be possible to copy the
whole kolab 
directory to the vm, then upgrade kolab (on the vm) to the
latest 
version following the upgrade info in 1st.Readme?
