| Newbie questions about address book,
configure client and others |

Hello all,
I recently install Kolab for use in our small office and in
first tests
I'm doing, kolab goes well.
There are certain dudes I have respect how to use Kolab.
- Address book. We want to share our contact globally, but
kaddressbook
(kontact client here) seems that "only" look for
in share address book
of kolab. We want add a contact in kaddressbook and
automagically "up"
to share address. It is possible? Maybe that I have
something wrong
configure or missed configured.
- Configure client. This is a particular curiosity because
we don't be
much users. There are any configure client tool to adjust
Kontact values
or I must go step by step across Kontact preferences
interface.
- Share calendar. In the test I'm doing to share
appointments and to-dos
I need to assing to a group in which I'm suscribe. Then I
must to
"receive" in Kmail to get a mail in which I
receive the appointment, Is
it the usual way?
Sorry for my very bad english and for these newbie
questions. I look for
across maillist archive, kolab wiki and google without
sucess.
Thanks in advance.
Regards.
Salud y Revolución.
Lobo.

kontact comes with kolabwizard which should do what you want
to. On debian
it's in kdepim-wizards.
The other stuff I can't help with.

In the kolab webadmin frontend you have the possibility to
create
entries in a so called "Global Addressbook". These
are stored in the
LDAP tree and not in an IMAP folder. This way they should be
accessible to all users on the system.

Hm, do you mean "synchronize" when you say
"receive"? Kontact uses
disconnected IMAP which means that it tries to minimize the
number of
times it has to connect to the IMAP server. So you have to
explicitely
let it synchronize with IMAP in order to note new calendar
items or
tasks. Was this what you meant?
Cheers,

Hello Joh,
Sorry for big, big delay in answer, I don't only computing

(The question is about wasn't working with kolabwizard to
configure an
kolab user)
Well, I don't say that isn't working, I say that I need to
configure
more things
I'll itemize now the step to configure an account:
- Add user to kolab, and to kolab's groups throug web
interface.
- Use kolabwizard.
- Run kmail and change option to visible groupware folders.
- Configure SMTP transport to send mails throug kolab.
- Need to delete in korganizer local resource.
- Need to configure "personal" page of korganizer.
- Need to configure "groupware" page of
korganizer.
- Configure "free/busy" page of korganizer.
- Configure "group work" manually: add groups
acounts, add perms...
Are there a "fast" method to configure it?

I know, but I want to do this:
"User A" add a contact in his
"kaddresbook" on "kontact". "User
B"
should access to these contact automatically when "User
A" finish to add it.
Add contacts throught webadmin is not the desired way.

Yes? I mean to say "check mail in "kolab
server" acount".

Possibly yes. I repeat my question, Is this the usual way?

That should be the case for any shared groupware folder. The
folder
has to be accessible to both users and once User A finished
editing,
User B needs to synchronize ("Check Mail") and
should get the new or
updated entry.

Yes, currently you will always have to synchronize to see
new mail or
new groupware objects like addresses, notes, events and so
on.

Citing from page 19 of the mentioned document:
Do not publish Free/Busy information yourself. They will be
generated on the
server after being triggered, which should happen
automatically after a
write operation.

It is a recently revised documentation for an older
version,
but still current enough to get the core configuration
right.
