| kolab live-cd now available |

Hi
I'm happy to announce the availability of an openSUSE based
kolab live-cd.
The live-cd provides kolab-2.2b3, horde-3.2rc1 and kde-3.5
client and comes
with 2 pre-configured users. The CD can be downloaded
from:
http://linux01.
gwdg.de/apt4rpm/kolab/
As with many live-cd's it can be extended with packages such
as e.g.
squirrelmail.
I hope that the CD proves to be easy to experiment, to
explore and to evaluate
the kolab groupware solution.

Nice to hear that it is working in VirtualBox.
Did you do anything special to get it working in
VirtualBox?

Thanks for the feedback.

Sorry, this is obviously a 'newbie' question, but:
is it possible to install/clone this Live version onto a
machine ? I'd like to
take this as a base for an install and then add my own
domain to it...
Cheers,
Diego

I would love this also. A virtual machine would also be
cool.

With this version it is not possible with the next version
it will be. I will
at least include the package
"yast2-live-installer" to make this possible.
Is there anything else that could be improved to the
live-cd? I think that a
next version of the live-cd might be available around 26
Jan.

People have reported that the live-cd can be run with
VirtualBox and vmware.
AFAIK these are virtual machines, you only need to have
sufficient memory to
make this work. If this is not sufficient, the live-cd
comes with all the
files to (re-)create the live-cd. If you have a look at it,
it's only
commands!

That should read, it is not possible out of the box. You
can install the
live-installer with:
# smart install yast2-live-installer
When you have no connection to the internet use another
machine to save the
rpm to e.g. a memory stick and install the live-installer
from the memory
stick.
After that I have been told that it should be possible.
Well just let us
know

Richard,
I'd have two suggestion:
-) how about adding a few repositories, e.g. OSS and Kolab
?
-) some documentation on how to proceed to create
'something.net' ?
And with respect to the 'install': thanks for your hint,
this is what worked
for me so far:
-) create a new VM with VMware server (Linux, openSUSE,
512MB, 8GB, bridged
network
-) add a CD drive to the VM, pointing to the LiveCD ISO
-) start VM
-) walk through the network card setup
-) open YAST, add the OSS repository ('software
repositories')
-) install 'yast2-live-installer' via 'software management'
in YAST
-) start 'Live-Installer' via YAST, install onto the VM's
harddisk
-) after installation, shutdown VM
-) remove or disconnect the CD drive pointing to the ISO
-) start the VM
-) define admin password & new local user (?)
-) internet connection test failed, no URL defined (!)
-) log in as 'kolab1'
-) shutdown VM, take a snapshot
Cheers,
Diego
