Since getting a Thomson Speedtouch (rev 4) working with
Bering 2.4.2, I
am having intermittent breaks in the internet connection.
The connection
from ppp0 to our ISP goes down - especially when users try
to access
yahoo.com or their hotmail account... anybody have any idea
why this is?
Could it be a shorewall configuration that I need or a known
issue with
the speedtouch?

Despite having 'persist' in the /etc/ppp/options file the
only way to
resurrect the internet connection is to execute the
following commands:

ifdown ppp0
rmmod speedtch
rmmod crc32
(unplug & re-plug speedtouch)
insmod crc32
insmod speedtch
ifup ppp0
pppd call dsl-provider

This must seem really clumsy to many readers - any
shortcuts,
workarounds or suggested config settings changes will be
much
appreciated.

Werner

Don't know if you are using pppoe as well?
I have the following in my /etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider:

persist
# Set maxfail to 0 for unlimited connections attemps
maxfail 0

May be you can try the above in /etc/ppp/options?
