Russ & All,
One of us is wrong and it wouldn't
surprise me if it is I.
The reel to reel (open tape) bulk eraser I own
is not to
be left on longer than 30 - 45 seconds at a time. It
WILL
overheat / melt the core (winding) if left on for 3 - 4
minutes.
Besides, please correct me if I'm wrong, but HDs
are
shielded aren't they?
For what little it may / might be worth,
if no one suggested
Cindy, if she has one, or she ask someone else to
check
the HD using their computer, but first, Cindy have you
tried
connecting the replacement HD?
Did the laptop boot with the
replacement?
Good luck and PLEASE let us know the outcome. I
understand your not wanting others to see / have access to
the contents
of your HD even if it's ONLY family pictures &
correspondence.
Be well and be SAFE!
Mrs. Robin

About the only non-destructive method without it working is to get a
bulk eraser like they used to use for reel-to-reel, cassette. beta, VHS, etc
tapes and leave it on while setting on the old HD well AWAY from any thing
else for 3-4 or 5 mins straight. If you really have a bad feeling see what
they will charge if you don;t send the core in then just pay the core fee,
smash the crap out of the old HD with a hammer and toss
it.
Hi. The hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop died. Dell sent
me a new hard drive, & I need to send them my old hard drive to
avoid
being charged for the replacement. Is there anything I can do to
clean my data off the old hard drive before I send it to Dell? When
the old hard drive was in the laptop, the laptop didn't recognize
there was a hard drive in. I'm not comfortable sending my old hard
drive w/ all my data on it to Dell (or anywhere). Thanks for any
help.
