Thanks for the reply Russ. Well It was not sold as a refurbished, it was supposed to be new retail. I bought it from Best Buy and actually the salesperson told me it had a year warrenty at the time of purchase, however when I called about the broken key, I was told the warrenty was only 90 days. ; A call to Toshiba gave the same results and neither would ;repair it unless I was willing to pay for the part and repair. The model number on the back says PSL2XU-00Q00P. The keyboard model number says A000001030X5099839W12. I googled A000001030 and that is where I found one that cost $49.

Thanks again Russ.

90 day warranty? Factory.OEM warranty? Is this a refurbished C stock machine?

It would be nice to know the part/model of the machine to give you the part number and all the machines that you can cross it from. I have a feeling you m ight have bought a depot rebuilt 6100 or similar.

5 months into owning a new Toshiba Satellite (90 day warrenty!) the keyboard space bar suddenly quit working. I have the keyboard out, and have attempted repair to no avail. Anyone on the list ever succeeded in a laptop keyboard repair? The cheapest replacement I can find is $50 with shipping.

PSL2XU is an L25, should be a 1 yr warranty. the bill of materials part number is 1028199295.1171146887&BV_EngineID=ccciaddkedlmlhlcgfkceghdgngdgnj.0" target="_top">A000001030 and list is $20 which is what dealers are supposed to sell it for not what they pay for it. That same keyboard fits the L15 (L10 has a different KB), L20/25 and L30/35.

Does the serial number have a B at the end? If so it's a refurb - dunno why I said part number. You likely bought it around Thanksgiving (till nar Xmas) when BB had it around $450 ??

Email the serial to me and I can see what the real warranty info says - I know it's a year on A stock and those are also ones you need to check the battery on with the defective battery recall. Support should have a public document on what to check for. AC adapters are the biggest failure on them - the internal wire breaks just past the molded strain reliefs.

By the way the system board (motherboard) for those is only $81 list exchange, $162 outright in case someone tells you later it costs more than the new machine.
