Sure Wayne. I thought I had sent you some instructions, but I must
have forgotten. Here is a copy of instructions I gave someone else who
is interested in doing theis himself:
First, take the LCD panel out of the lid completely. Look it over and
you will see where the little backlight plug comes out one end on the
bottom edge. It will have a white and a pink wire, typically. The
bulb itself is located inside the panel along the bottom edge. To get
to old one out, you will have to figure out how to remove the outer
metal frame which holds the 6 or 7 layers of light diffusing material
tightly against the front piece of glass, which has the actual pixels
deposited on it, and is connected to the controller circuitry on the
long PC board at the top, and usually also one along one side. These
are the ribbon cables which turn the individual pixels on and off by
means of complicated X-Y circuitry. If you bend one of these ribbon
cables too sharply, or pull it loose when you take the layers of this
panel apart, you will end up with dead lines up and down or across (or
both) the screen.
Now after you figure out what tabs you have to bend back, and which
screws you have to take out to get the disassembly process started,
find a nice soft lint free workbench to begin peeling back the layers
inside the panel, and eventually you will see where the reflective
channel containing the lamp is located and be able to remove it. Now
you are almost half way done. The next steps will involve removing the
lamp from the channel, replacing it with a known good one, putting the
channel back properly on the edge of the plastic light diffuser plastic
piece, then laying the diffusing layers back in place properly one at a
time making sure they all line up (Oh, and if you get any dust
particles or fingerprints on these, you will be able to see them
forever more after you get the unit back together) If you are good,
you will be able to get the metal frame back around the whole assembly,
turn the screws in, bend the tabs back, and hook it all back up inside
the lid and have a good unit once again.

Hello
Does anyone have details on how to replace an LCD backlight bulb on a
Compaq Evo n1020v Laptop, or similar machine, so that I ca attempt to
replace faulty bulb.
Have worked with electronics for 20 yrs, but if information about how
to go about it would be helpful.
Thanks
Wayne
