The 5000e probably has a dead motherboard - there's just no
response
from pressing the power button.
The 8000 almost works - Two sets of horizontal lines are
making
unwelcomed visits on the LCD. The laptop also has trouble
finding the
optical drive, but I hope that's due to a bad cable
connection.
Haven't checked external monitor output.
I just bought what's essentially another 5000e without the
case. I'm
told the motherboard and LCD are functional.
I'd like to take the loose LCD (a Toshiba LTM15C162) and
its
associated cabling and replace the LCD setup on the 8000.
Compatibility looks promising, even though the evidence's
light

I'm going to swap out the motherboard on the 5000e.
Any thoughts on other settings, adjustments, or other
factors that
should get my attention? I'm really excited about the
prospect of
repairing two laptops. Thanks for reading.
