I have a GRX500P and I have a two memory slot problem
before but i was able to fixed it by myself by
soldering the pins and i think its working perfectly
and have no problem at all.

Lately i have been getting the abrupt shutdown problem
again. Basically I turn it on, it stays on for like
5-10 minutes, and then abruptly turns off. Tom's site
says this is caused by overheating, so I took off the
heat sink and applied a thermal pad, and also thermal
paste when the pad didn't seem to be working. No
improvement. I'm pretty sure the heat sink is working
because it gets hot soon after the laptop turns on,
but more cooling doesn't seem to help the problem.

When this problem first started, the HD light would
blink and the laptop would make an odd
whirring/clicking sound right before it shutdown, then
i have to wait for about 2 minutes to turn it on again
but the same symptoms happens.

Is it possible that the eight(top/bottom of the
motherboard) 270uf capacitors are the culprit?,should
i replace it like the F series bad caps problem issue
before?.

I hope you can help and assist me the step by step DIY
troubleshooting regarding my problem. Im from the
Philippines and its hard for me to send the laptop to
your place..hope you understand..:(

Thank you very much and more power!

Nick

That whirring clicking sound might be a failing hard drive. I would run
chkdsk c: /r and see if it finds a lot of errors for starters.

I have never heard of these units having trouble with the electrolytics,
as a matter of fact, I have never had to replace them on ANY laptop
motherboard, so I don't see why you are suspecting them as the problem?
