I'm going to find if there IS a fan on that video chip. I also
found this blog entry:

http://www.laptops-we-r.com/pblog/comments.php?
y=05&m=08&entry=entry050809-110514

I admit it, I reposted my woes there, too.

I'm also planning to put a thermal pad on the video chip. Here's
that thermal pad:

productid=HSFPHASECM&c=US

If there's no fan on the video, then I guess I'll just have to put
the pad directly on the video and pray. I'm not exactly sure how a
thermal pad will work without a heatsink or fan.

I just hope I can find the video chip without taking apart the
laptop any further. I just had to pop open the power panel and the
keyboard to access the P4 CPU.

Thanks again for reading.

I glopped on that thermal tape on top of the video CPU. I realized
the difficulty in placing an even layer of this stuff on a
non-heatsink surface. There wasn't any type of heat protection on
that chip except for a metal shield.

I'll have to find a better way to apply what essentially feels like
either Silly Putty or chewing gum.

I actually thought my poor application of that thermal tape would
shorten the uptime of the Gateway.

I ran MemTest86+ on it for 9.5 hours straight before I *CHOSE* to shut
it down.

I think I just might be good-enough to go.
