Hi,
I am basically an amateur but I know enough to get
myself in trouble!! I have an HP Pavilion ze1230
laptop that was given to me. It is a great little
computer and I have done everything I can think of to
get it in
tiptop shape. The only problem I am having is
that it constantly freezes up. The only answer I can
find to that is it's overheating. The laptop does overheat
easily, but it freezes up randomly whether overheated or
not (?) - many times just after being freshly booted after
sitting cool as a cucumber for hours. It will work
smoothly after a few frequent freezes for sometimes 2
hours then begin the freeze ups again.
So, I want to take the bottom off and clean the fans.
If you can tell me how to do that safely? I tried already
and got all the screws out, the battery out and every
thing disconnected. I couldn't lift the back side at all
but the front side came up a good bit. There are 2 places
(I suppose ports? - one for printer maybe, other I don't
know) that maybe need to come off? But I don't want to do
that unless I should - since I assume those are connected
to an inner part? Or if I take the little bolts off,
will
each unit just slide out like the battery unit did?
Also, if you have any other ideas about the freezing up,
let me know? I already replaced the mouse - it's not that.
I ran the diagnostics thing and it says everything is in
good working order. I've done the files cleanup and the
config - which neither had ever been done apparently!
My most immediate problem is that I am trying to do an
update from Microsoft Windows (I have XP) that says it
will soon not be available any more and on-going support
will not be available to any computer without the update.
I can't get the update to finish - the computer freezes
at the point where the download and installation are
basically finished except for inspecting files. It stops
when it is trying to "backup files" (?). When I go back to
start over it shows nothing got installed.
Well, thanks for allowing questions from non-professionals.
It will be wonderful if you
can help me with stuff and
save me bucks - I don't have much to spend or I'd gladly
have an expert take care of this.
Your new friend,
Becky
