With the Leafscan 2.2 plug-in you can also use Photoshop 7.0. I initially started out with
Photoshop 5.5 and 6.0 and had some problems (the plug-in would crash when changing
from 8 bit to high bit). I have had none of these problems since switching to Photoshop
7.0.
Most of the vintage scanners are very sensitive to the SCSI card. For the Leafscan 45 and
many other vintage scanners that run on pre MAC OSX systems the best SCSI card is the
Adaptec 2906. With any pre OSX Mac system you will need to manually place the card
driver in the extension folder.
Termination is also very important if the Leafscan 45 is the last SCSI device on your
system.
And finally, try the last of the pre OSX Mac systems, OS 9.2.2, if you can find it and it
works on your G3, which it should. It is much more stable than previous versions.
For what it is worth, I had very good success with the Leafscan 45 on a beige G3
computer running OS9.2.2, with 750mb of Ram, the Leafscan 2.2 plug-in, and Photoshop
7.0. I now run the Leaf on a G4 (867mhz Quicksilver) that will dual boot into either OS
9.2.2 or into OS 10.3.9.
