Nils,
For SilverFast to work with a PC is a Firewire to SCSI
Interface preferred? I already have a 2940w SCSI card that
could be used and don't own a Firewire card (though they're
not expensive). Are there SCSI issues that cause problems
that the Firewire -> SCSI connection resolves?

Dear Russell,
No, ist not preferred, i only meant: i really like the Firewire way, because
it allows you to use a Note/Powerbook for scanning and the cable is more
flexible compared to a SCSI cable...
A working SCSI Card should be fine, although Adaptec Cards can be a pain
under OSX...
