Focus adjustment

I am using the glass mount and have not had any problems at all with
focus. In fact, I have found the point of focus to be very precise,
resulting in scans of great apparent sharpness even without any
unsharp mask. And I am simply focusing on the negative, not with a
special template.

Sounds like to me something could be wrong with the settings of your
Leaf?

> I agree with others' comments about focus, optimal apertures,
post-scan
> usm, etc. My own tests show that stopping down also increases
the
> resolution away from the image center, especially scanning 4x5's
in
> landscape orientation. It's better when scanning 4x5's in
portrait
> orientation and smaller film sizes, but you have to put up with
the
> longer scan times with the smaller apertures.

> I've settled on F5.6 for 35mm, f8 for 2-1/4, and f11 for 4x5,
and yep,
> rather long scan times are a result. But in my workflow, these
> apertures provide a good compromise between resolution across
the image
> and scan times.
>
> Also, depending on how much of the film area is to be used, I'll
also
> employ a sort of vignetting mask to apply a little extra usm
away from
> the image center to help compensate for that inherent lens
resolution
> fall-off toward the image edges.

> My 2 cents....
