The Digital Content Services Team of the Robert W. Woodruff
Library at
Emory University in Atlanta, GA, is seeking a motivated,
resourceful,
and creative web developer who enjoys a relaxed atmosphere
that mixes
mission-critical application support and development with a

mix of R&D-focused experimentation. The Digital Content
Services team
provides on-demand digitization of library collections in
support of
faculty instruction and research, as well as applications
development
and support for the delivery and management of that content.
This
position is the lead developer for ReservesDirect

ct.org) and will be the primary devleoper for
Rights Management software that is now in the planning
stages. We are
an Open Source-oriented LAMP shop.

Applications Developer/Analyst, Sr.
Digital Content Services Team
Woodruff Library, Emory University
Key Responsibilities:
• Take a primary role in designing, programming, and
supporting major
applications and targeted projects within the Digital
Content Services
team. Collaborate with the Systems Administration and Web
Development
Team on programming standards, best practices, and project
administration. Assist the Web Development Team in other
library
programming initiatives as needed.
• Investigate, suggest, develop, and maintain custom
solutions to
improve efficiency and functionality of services and
operations for
the Digital Content Services team and the Access Services
division.
Assess application needs for services provided by the
department,
gather requirements, and write specifications; research,
install, and
test potential open source programs and platforms; customize
programs
and applications; implement and support selected
applications. Conduct
research and development activities on web services and
applications
that can advance the mission of the team to provide
leading-edge
solutions for creating and delivering digital content for
use by
instructors and students at the University.
• Act as primary contact person for support and
troubleshooting to
internal library customers for applications that the digital
content
services team is responsible for. Act as the lead contact
for
technical aspects of the ReservesDirect project
(http://www.reservesdire
ct.org) locally and for the open source
community.
• Collaborate with other members of the division to
support
programming and development needs, such as web site
development and
maintenance, applications support, and generating library
system
reports.
University Minimum Qualifications:
Six years of information technology experience OR a
bachelor's degree
and four years of information technology experience.
Positions in this
classification may require a knowledge of one or more
programming
languages and/or a knowledge of an application and
application tools.
General Libraries Additional Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
Experience managing, gathering requirements formally and
implementing
large scale web applications, using one or more of the
following
tools: PERL, PHP5, and a relational database (MySQL,
PostgreSQL).
Experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL relational database
design.
Knowledge of one or more object-oriented programming and web
scripting
languages. Well-developed skills in communication,
information-gathering, and problem solving.
Highly desirable qualifications for this position include:
Demonstrated experience with HTML / CSS layout, DHTML, and
Javascript
highly desirable. Experience with XML/XSLT and web services
technologies such as SOAP, RSS, etc., highly desirable.
Knowledge of
Linux (or close Un*x variant) and Apache is preferred.
