We are currently looking for alternatives to our current web
analytics
tool, Nettracker. It would be great to hear what others are
using and
if they are satisfied both in terms of the data they get and
the effort
required to maintain the software on the back-end. Any
comments would
be appreciated. Thanks!

What sort of data are you looking to retrieve? I just set
up Google
Analytics on our main site, our Openurl resolver and our
federated search
page. I haven't been using it long enough to figure out
what's missing,
but I'm impressed with what I have seen so far. The price
is right (free)
and there is no maintenance. Is anyone else using Google
Analytics? If so,
what could be improved?

If you have access to log files on your server you can try
something
like AWStats (http://awstats.source
forge.net/) or Webalizer
(http://www.mrunix.ne
t/webalizer/).

Otherwise I would echo the Google Analytics with a couple
words of
caution. First, you are giving Google even more data to add
to their
heap. And second, Google Analytics requires adding a
Javascript to each
page to be tracked, meaning more on the frontend for the
user to load.
(It is minimal and will be cached, but is a legitimate
concern for some.)

Another option (and also requires JS) is a nice little
package called
Mint (http://haveamint.com/)
which has a very well designer interface,
but maybe not quite as much depth of information.

Good Luck,
