Hi All,

Does anyone know of some good open source streaming software
that will
stream .mov files?

TIA,

Hi Ilana,

The premiere package for this is Darwin Streaming Server,
developed by
Apple. It's the open-source version of their Quicktime
Streaming
Server, which is included with their OS X Server package.

You can find it here:
http://dss.macosforge.org/

or here:

reaming/index.html

A friend of mine used VLC for his streaming needs.
According to the
website it looks like it should handle quicktime files.

Depending on the scope of the project VLC is quite good. I
found that it
gets taxed pretty quickly. That said I have only used the
*paid* version
of QTSS to make my comparison there slightly skewed.

I believe that Helix is both open source and can handle
QuickTime.
Can't vouch for easy-to-use, though.
