Hi list,

One thing that I think would really help the gui discussion
is a detailed list
on what different plugins may want to do with the gui.
Personally, I think
it's difficult to discuss pros/cons of different solutions
without something
concreate to base it on.

I have started the list below (pretty short, but I'm
feeling too tired for
anything more elaborate). Please add plugins and actions to
the list. If you
think this is a good idea, I'll put together a summary on
the wiki when we
get a more complete list.

* History plugin
- Add a "View history" item to the all users'
popup menu.
- For each protocol, add a "View history" item
to each protocol's sub menu
(for viewing system messages).
- In all message windows, add a button to view history.
- Add a tab to all users' info window, for displaying the
actually history.

* Protocol plugin

* Auto-reply plugin

* Encryption plugin

* Shake-the-window-when-I-get-a-message-from-my-boss plugin

Let's continue this discussion...

I'll be moving the list to the wiki, since its hard to
maintain a list in
an e-mail. But I'd like to discuss it here. Basically, do
the changes on
the wiki, then send an e-mail here to discuss it.

I the item's that Erik proposed a few months ago, and
expanded on it a
little bit. One of the main concerns is how much the
plugin's can get from
the main GUI. For example, the shake-window plugin. What is
ideal is for
the plugin to be written with Qt but still work on a gui
that is written
in GTK. It should be possible, if the GUI gives the
XServer's window id to
the shake-window plugin (SW) and then SW modifies the Window
via the Qt
interface. Not sure if this is possible, but I think so.

Anyways, here is the URL for us to work on:

http://wiki.licq.org/index.php/Plugin_API#GUI_Consid
erations

I'll be adding more when I get time, (still cleaning up
from moving).

Hi

I added two things for the encryption plugin.

- - Indicate when the conversation is encrypted (how? - a
line in the
conversation window should notify about it)

If you start a conversation and do not encrypt it at the
begin but in
the middle of the conversation it would be helpful to see a
text about
successful encryption in the conversation window. So you
know at which
point the conversation was encrypted.

- - Add an option in the user's menu to set the policy for
this user (OTR
has 4 states)

You can configure 4 states for OTR per user. It should be
possible to
set these states in the user menu. Maybe there is only one
menu point
with "OTR settings" and this opens a new window
or a submenu.
