Dear users,

lighttpd.net is looking for help.

lighttpd.net was down for some hours today. Since a while
I'm havin
problems in keeping the blog, the forum, trac, mysql and
lighty up with
only 256Mbyte of RAM.

The blog (typo) and trac are real memory eaters. Both easily
drive the
box into swap and shortly later into Out-Of-Memory. From
time to time
one of the shells (bash) runs amok too and just alloc all
memory. But
that's only because this is a long running, old linux
installation.

I'm having now two options: kill the services as soon as
they reached a
mem-limit or get a new box.

I want to ask if someone can offer a box to run
lighttpd.net. The
traffic for now is really low, last month it was 70Gbyte.
The webserver
has 3-4 req/s (see http://jan.kneschke.de/rr
d/). If you can offer a box
to host lighttpd it has to have about a 1Gbyte of RAM, a CPU
(the box
has no load, now it is a 2GHz Celeron) and some disk space.
Looks like
RAM is the only problem for now.

lighttpd.net is
- trac.lighttpd.net (trac 0.9.x)
- blog.lighttpd.net (typo-trunk + rails 1.1)
- forum.lighttpd.net (rforum-trunk + rails)
- www.lighttpd.net (php 5.x)
- svn.lighttpd.net (subversion 1.2.x)

SSH + root would be require. There is no restriction on the
OS side (ok,
no windows).

What about shared hosting? I have been using dreamhost.com
for a while
now. They support svn repositories, ftp, php, ssh and rails
apps. Load
from other users hasn't been a problem. I got a promo deal
where the
basic account was $1/mth instead of $10. Common discount
coupons are
888 and BEST. Downside is that you have to use Apache unless
you can
talk them into lighttpd. Another idea would be to keep the
main
lighttpd server on your machine and move the other apps off
to the
remote host. A lot of people on the Rails mail list are
using
Dreamhost since it is so cheap.

Jan,

We can host - We are setting up a virtual instance now and
will build
out a separate machine tonight.
We can also add clustering to provide failover.
We are at an inreach colo in the SF Bay Area.
