Many mailing lists I've seen are set to moderate the first
few posts
for new users. Since most ML spam is sent from disposable
one-off
addresses, this would cut down a lot on spam.
It's a little more work for the list moderators, but if
members are
taken off moderation after their first couple real posts it
shouldn't
be overwhelming.
