??? I just use iwconfig.
# iwconfig [iface] essid [ap_you're_associating_to]
or
# iwconfig [iface] essid [ap] key [index#] [encription_key]
If you have multiple AP's with the same essid, you can add
the "bssid"
option with the mac of the AP you're trying to connect to.
"man iwconfig" for more info.

you're using iwconfig with the wlan-ng chipset? In what version did they add support for "write" operations?

It's been there for some time now, though only relatively
recently did
it get fixed up enough to work reliably with the likes of
NetworkManager.
To use it, add:
options p80211 wlan_wext_write=1
to /etc/modprobe.conf

Thank you for the reply! Is the command to set the access point not supported? iwconfig wlan0 ap ..., whenever I run it, I end up with Function not implemented. Is there some other way to set AP?
