Job Title: LEAD SOFTWARE ENGINEER
Description:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Skilled and versatile Software Engineer to:
- technically lead porting of service processor software to
future 
platforms.
- implement platform specific customizations for service
processor software.
- work with the BIOS and service teams to implement
functions that 
improve the diagnosability of platform problems.
- support manufacturing and the field in applications of the
service 
processor to reduce manufacturing and service costs.
-work with PTS to resolve questions from customers.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Preparation of software distributions. Reviewing hardware
designs.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
- C, assembler, scripting languages, linux, kernel, gdb,
software 
development process.
- server management and associated protocols (IPMI, SNMP).
- broad understanding of low level software, operating
systems, computer 
hardware.
- independent, thorough, responsible, and technically
competent.
- has good communication, technical leadership,
documentation, and 
organizational skills.
- works well with others.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:
Understanding of x86/ppc/arm architectures, linux kernel,
BIOS, booting, 
operating systems (Linux, Windows, Solaris), drivers, disks,
networking, 
PCI-X/E, "how x86s work".
Programming and scripting skills for contributing to our
test environment.
Detailed knowledge of the AMD Opteron and associated
chipsets.

This position may vary between a Staff Engineer AND Senior
Staff 
Engineer (Z-10 or Z-12)depending on the experience of the
candidate.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 7-10 years

MINIMUM LEVEL OF EDUCATION: MS

FIELD OF STUDY: Computer Science or Engineering
